Safety Instructions The precondition for flawless, safe operation of the change-over contacts is appropriate transport,
storage, assembly, professional installation and start-up, proper use and maintenance.
These activities may only be performed by persons, who have the necessary expertise and qualifications.
The relevant safety regulations for the construction and operation of electrical systems must be
observed. If information contained in these instructions should prove to be inadequate in any way,
please contact the manufacturer.
Function The BK-390 is a magnetically-operated changeover switch that permanently changes its electric
switching status due to a switching magnet passing by (float/weight) depending on the direction of
movement. The switching status is shown in the status window of the housing cover. PASSING UNDER
=BLACK, PASSING OVER=WHITE. After the housing cover has been opened, the switching status can be
pre-set manually by turning the display wheel (BLACK/WHITE): turn clockwise “PASSING OVER”, turn
anti-clockwise “PASSING UNDER”.
Application For mounting on the side of bypass tubes. The number and position of the changeover contacts can be
chosen at random.
Mounting Mount the switch with pipe clip parallel to the bypass tube at the desired position. The cable connection
must point downwards. Only use suitable E.L.B. floats. The “O” marking on the float must point
upwards. Do not install any magnetic materials near the switch. Minimum distance to other changeover
contacts > 40 mm. Using tubes with an outer diameter of 32-34-40 mm may cause a blockage of the
float. In the event of such behaviour, please increase the distance between contact and pipe. (Plastic
spacers for example).
Electrical connections Open the housing cover and make the electrical connections in a de-energised state. Do not exceed the
maximum electrical values (see technical data). Close the housing cover.
Maintenance/servicing The BK-390 does not require any special servicing, over and above the general
inspection/functional check of the electrical system.
